Glass Candy
by: Moirakris' Mom
Yield: approx 3 cups
1 1/3 C white corn syrup (Karo syrup)
1 C water
1 tsp food coloring
1 tsp Flavoring Oil (such as cinnamon, peppermint etc.)
powdered sugar
Put the first 3 ingredients in a pan and stir to mix well. Set on stove set to high. DO NOT STIR WHILE COOKING
Cook to 300 degrees on a candy thermometer. If you do not have a thermometer cook until you reach the hard crack stage (drop a little of the molten syrup in cold water and it will form hard, brittle threads that break when bent)
Remove from the heat and add flavoring (to taste) and food coloring. Stir to mix well.
Pour onto foil or cookie sheet that is greased or covered well in powdered sugar. Pour in thin strips. Cover the top with more powdered sugar. When cool break into small pieces.

This was my brothers favorite when we were little so we made it lots.
ReplyDeleteIt works great when making gingerbread houses too, I color it blue for skating ponds!
