Yield: 8 servings
1 chopped onion
4 tbsp shortening
2 tbsp Szeged Hungarian Paprika get Sweet, not the hot (affiliate link)
1 tsp black pepper
1 tsp sea salt
8-12 chicken legs
1 1/2 cups water (or chicken broth)
1/2 pint sour cream
Saute onion in shortening. Add the seasonings and chicken. Saute about 10 minutes. Add water, cover and simmer until chicken is cooked through. Remove chicken and add sour cream to pan drippings; mix well. Taste and add additional seasonings if needed. Add dumplings (see recipe below) and stir to coat. Heat through and serve.
*Note: You can use any pieces of chicken that you like, even boneless/skinless but the bone-in chicken give it the best flavor
Dumplings
3 eggs, beaten
3 cups flour
1 tsp sea salt
1/2 cup water (or chicken broth)
1/2 tsp baking powder
Mix all ingredients together. Drop by small spoonfuls into boiling water. Cook about 10 minutes or until cooked through. Drain and rinse with cold water. Add to Chicken Paprikas recipe above.
